Gourmet to Go: Another success story from the EPWP Entrepreneurship Trainee Programme

Peter Gie, the owner of "Gourmet to Go" operates a home-based catering business from Parow, producing exquisite savoury and sweet platters tailored to the needs of customers and their events.

Since its inception in 2002, the business has built a reputation for providing tasty food for weddings, birthdays, or any other special occasion.

However, Peter's participation in the EPWP Trainee Programme is helping the business to strengthen its foundations, creating potential to rise to new heights. 

Through the programme, he has honed his business acumen, particularly in marketing and branding, and has successfully forged valuable collaborations with partners both within and outside the programme. These collaborations have been instrumental in the growth and expansion of his business.

The guidance provided in both basic accounting and business administration has given Peter new insight into the health and potential of his business, putting him in a position where he can successfully identify inefficiencies or plan for growth. He has even hired a new staff member to handle the admin. 

'Three years ago, if I were to be asked how much my business makes, I wouldn't even be able to answer with accurate numbers, but to date, I can answer clearly and confidently knowing I've learnt this valuable skill on the programme,' said Peter.

'The success of entrepreneurs like Peter is a testament to the impact of the EPWP Entrepreneurship Trainee Programme. We are not only empowering entrepreneurs to elevate their enterprises but also contributing to the broader economic growth of our community. We are incredibly proud of Peter's achievements and look forward to seeing more success stories emerge from participants in this initiative,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.

About the Programme

The EPWP Entrepreneurship Training Programme, now in its third year, uses EPWP funding to equip entrepreneurs with essential skills through comprehensive training and development modules provided by the University of the Western Cape. These modules cover financial management, marketing, leadership, and more, coupled with personalised coaching and mentorship.

The impact of the programme over the past two years has been profound, fostering job creation and economic growth among participating enterprises.
